BEFORE USING CD-ROM DRIVE:
==========================

	This version of CDMKE.SYS will support CDI funtion
	but only if your CD-ROM have already firmware
	revision 0.76.

	


SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:


	- IBM AT/PC 286 or higher processor
	- MS-DOS or PC-DOS operating system version 3.1 or later
	- Microsoft CD-ROM Extensions (MSCDEX) version 2.0 or later
	- Matsushita CD-ROM drive interface board
	  or Creative multimedia sound card SOUND BLASTER PRO 2
	- Matsushita model CR-52x or CR-562 CD-ROM drive
	  Max. 4 sets of MKE CD-ROM Drives shall be connectable as
	  combination of Model #CR-562 or #CR-52x. In this case, however
	  Model #CR-52x should not be more than 1 set because #CR-52x
	  is fixed at ID No. 0


INSTALLATION:


	Once this has been accomplished, the files CONFIG.SYS and
	AUTOEXEC.BAT need to be modified to complete the installation
	of MSCDEX.

	The following are examples:

	DEVICE=CDMKE.SYS /D:MSCD000 /SBP:220 [switch]   (for Soundblaster
	Pro 2)

        or     

	DEVICE=CDMKE.SYS /D:MSCD000 [switch]          
	(for Matsushita	I/F board)



	switch		explanation     
-----------------------------------------------------------------
	/D:<device	Device drive name. This is the name MSCDEX.EXE will
	     name>	use to find the device driver. Every installed
			device driver must have a unique name.

	/P:<address>	I/O base port address of interface board

	 or

	/SBP:<address>	At the usage of MKE CD-ROM drive interface board,
			/P: Switch is applied and at usage of Creative
			S/B Pro 2 interface, /SBP: Switch is applied.
			Only either /P: or /SBP: is availiable for
		 	Switch setting.

		 	If /P (or /SBP): <address> is set, the base port
			address to be appointed by <address> is only searched.

			Thus, the other address cannot be searched. The only
			one base port address can be appointed by <address>.

			Thus, the setting cannot be made at more than one
		 	base port address.


			If /P (and /SBP): switch is omitted, MKE CD-ROM
			drive interface board shall become 300H, 310H,
			320H, 330H, and 340H.

			Ex: at base port 300H, /P:300 or /P: or /P
   			at base port 220H, /SBP:220 or /SBP: or /SBP



	/S:<mode><ID>   Speed control mode. (only with CR-562)
		 	For <mode> setting, 3 kinds of modes are availiable

			as below:

			A: Auto mode speed

			N: Normal mode speed

			D: Double mode speed

			If <ID> is set after <mode> setting, <mode> is
			effective only for the Drive appointed with ID No.
			If the <ID> setting is omitted, <mode> is effective
			for all connected Drives.
			
			If /S:switch is omitted, all connected Drives shall
			become Double mode speed.

			Ex: For the set of ID 0,1,2,3 = double mode:
		        /S:D0,D1,D2,D3 or /S:D0,1,2,3 or /S:D or /S: or /S

			For the set of ID 0 = normal mode, ID 3 = auto mode
			/S:A0,A1,N2,N3 or /S:A0,1,N2,3



	/N:<number>	Number of drivers:

			If the connected Drive is one, by setting of /N:1, the
			time of Device Driver installation is ocasionally
			shortened in comparision with no setting of /N: switch

			(or /N:4).

			Number to be set is 4 kinds (1,2,3,4). If setting
			number is smaller than the number of connected Drives,
			the smaller Drive ID No. is connected and the others

			(remaind drives) cannot be connected.

			If /N: switch is omitted, it shall become same as
			setting 4 as max. number of connectable Drives.

			Ex. For number of 4 Drives; /N:4 or /N: or /N
	                For number of 1 Drive ; /N:1 

	

	/X:N		This is usable for the application to require the
			support of lock/unlock door and eject.
			(only availiable with model CR-52x).
			
			If the application requires lock/unlock door or eject
			onto the Drive, it shall not treat as error but treat
			it as if lock/unlock or eject would be executed.

			(Actually no operation)

			By this setting, it is operatable even for the
			application requiresthe above commands.

			Ex. /X:N or /X: or /X

	
	/A:		By setting of /A: switch, sound is ocassioally
			output form both channels even for the case that the
			operating application outputs sound only from either
			one channel.

			Ex. /A: or /A


	LASTDRIVE=X

			The last drive in fact only needs to be largest drive
			letter that will be used on the system. For example,
			a FC with two floppy drives (drives A: and B:), two
			hard disk (drives C: and D:), and two CD-ROM drives
			(drives E: and F:) would only need LASTDRIVE=F.

			A PC that is on a network though will typically 
			allocate more drive records than are used so that new
			network drives can be added after booting.

	switch		explanation
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

	/D:<device	Precedes the device driver name. When combined with
	 name>		the device driver name, this switch tells MSCDEX.EXE
			where to find the device driver.

	/E		Tells MSCDEX.EXE to use expanded memory if your system
			is using expanded memory.

			(This switch requires LIM 3.2 or later)

	/L:<drive	Determines what drive letter MSCDEX.EXE uses as first
	  letter>	letter when assigning CD-ROM drive letters. Instead
			of starting at the first free drive letter, MSCDEX.EXE
			starts at the drive letter specified by this switch.

	/M:<value>	Tells MSCDEX.EXE how much memory to allocate for
			caching information on the CD-ROM. The higher this
			value is, the better your performance will be, though
			you will have less room on the CD-ROM for other
			applications.

	/Y		Provides memory usage statistics, such as how much
			memory is used by buffers, resisdent data, resident
			code.
